The Castle Doctrine
Canada sucks.
(H/T Reason Brickbats)
Dudley Do-Right (8/2)Two men kicked in the door of a home near Roblin, Manitoba, Canada. When a resident of the home pulled a gun, they left. But as they were leaving, Harvey Joseph Young allegedly fired a shot at their vehicle, striking one of them. The two drove to complain to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Now, they face several charges related to the home invasion, and Young has been charged with attempted murder.
To be fair, some parts of the United States assign the homeowner a duty to retreat and require they use every possible opportunity to escape an intruder before using deadly force. Other states operate on Castel Doctrine. The idea is that a man’s home is his castle and that intruders get what they get. I much prefer the later policy. Michigan has a castle doctrine, but it wasn’t until pretty recently.
