Does EMO Suck?

So I watched this and decided that EMO sucks. The song isn’t too bad. An easily forgettable punk rock power ballad but still, the video makes a compelling case against EMO. I was good with EMO sucks except I didn’t have any idea what EMO was. I couldn’t listen to a song and tell you what if it's EMO or not. I couldn’t define it in words. I thought it had something to do with being unhappy and wearing ugly clothes and clunky glasses. So I asked google and here’s what I found.

This makes a further case that EMO Sucks. And this damn near proves it.

But I still didn’t have an actual definition of EMO. So I kept digging. Valuable seconds later I had the what I was looking for. Emo is a broad title that covers a lot of different styles of emotionally-charged punk rock.

So did EMO suck? I wasn't so sure anymore. Punk is good. Whiny music is bad. I decided to press on and see if the rest of the site would help me make up my mind. Proof that EMO Sucks: Just about everything else in the site. (Some of the people that email him take this stuff seriously and don't know he's laughing at them) Proof that EMO doesn’t suck: His hate mail. If these people don't like what the author has to say he must have something. Another point for EMO is that he grades hatemail for reading comprehension skills. Similar to what Maddox does but not exactly the same. Also the site is pretty obviously a joke so that’s another point in the EMO doesn’t suck category. It’s a very close call so I leave it the disloyal spoonhouse to decide; Does EMO suck or not?

2. There’s a difference between a song or band sucking and a musical movement sucking. There’s no contradiction in liking many songs in a movement and disliking the movement itself. When you like the song on the radio who cares about the rest of it.
