Can you do 8th grad math?
The link to this 10 question test was emailed to me this morning. I took it and passed. The question about integers was pointless but I think every high school grad should be able to do the rest of these without paper, pencil or calculator.

10/10. What's scary is that there are people who really struggle with this stuff. On the other hand, there are people who think Bayesian statistics are just as rudimentary as the questions in that test, but such "Good Will Hunting's" are rare.
I admit it. I had to look Bayesian statistics up. Here's the link in WIKI
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayesian_statistics
It doesn't seem too bad though. Do you use it for predicting fish populations?
If you think Bayesian stats isn't "too bad", maybe you should consider a career as a university level fisheries statistician. I hear tenured faculty lead an enjoyable (and well compensated) lifestyle.
Don’t misunderstand; I don’t think it’s easy. But the computations didn’t look like they’d require learning any new maths. It seems like the kind of thing an educated person could pick up in a 3 to 6 credit hour class. In other words if you got a B or better in calc, de and basic statistics you should be able to learn Bayesian stats. Am I wrong about that?
A quick search of prerequisites for Bayesian stats courses resulted in mainly 400 or 500 level basic stats. So yes, you're probably right. Although from what I've seen, a background in logistic regression would really come in handy. Ultimately, statistics (even Bayesian) can be grasped by anyone, but there are a lot of worthless stats teachers out there. I was lucky to have a good one in grad school, who was able to explain things in an effective way.
