I got a table saw for Christmas. 15 amp Ryobi with a stand. Bought 200$ of materials (mostly oak) at Menards today. I’m Tomorrow I start making a new kitchen table.
Yeah, I'm going to make the base out wood. I bought 4in sq oak posts to make the legs. The center of the table is ply, trimmed with 8in oak board. So there should be plenty of extra material to make the frame to mount the legs to. I toyed with the idea of useing mortise and tennon joinery but decided that was too much work. I'll post pictures as a I go.
Pansy-assed engineers, so what if the mortise and tenon joints are a little more work... you like woodwork, remember? Any two bit hack can screw and glue, real men use the chisels that they asked for - and received - for Christmas. I like tenon joints, they look beefy and sturdy and make me think that something is made to last.
Fuck. I'm trying to use a tonge and groove joint for a long piece of oak ply and an oak plank. They won't go together because they're not flat enough. hmmm. This could be tricky.

Are you scrapping the idea of making the base out of decorative steel? Nice saw by the way.

try using a lap joint, won't be the same thing but you can glue and screw from the backside and no one will be the wiser.
