Loser's Day

Today is a state holiday in Texas known as Confederate Heroes Day. I'm not really sure how this holiday is supposed to differ from Memorial Day. All I can think is that people are still sore in the South about losing what they call the "War of Northern Aggression" (in fact, some think the war is still going on).
I don't really have a problem with commemorating all American dead soldiers and veterans (they were fighting for what they believed in and that's good enough for me), but I think that's what Memorial Day and Veteran's Day are for. Still, the South should feel lucky that they are allowed to celebrate such a holiday at all. What a great country we live in! Don't get me wrong- I'm not really complaining (we do get a lot of weird holidays down here, which is good for me), I just wonder what other countries would think if they were to establish a "Loser's Day".

You remember Old Man Bill at NWP? I remember him once refering to the Civil War. He said something along the lines of, "if WE had won the war..." Just goes to show that hillbillies are still "sore" about it!

Jack- your comment brings up a good question: What WOULD have happened if the South had prevailed? They actually had the North on ropes a number of times (Southern commanders were arguably better tacticians). So what would this country be like today? Would the northern states be a festering cess-pool like Mississippi and Alabama? (Well, Michigan could fit in with some southern states)
What would the South have done if the North surrendered?

I know one thing for sure would have happened - certain kinds of people wouldn't have the rights they do today. And yes, we'd all be hicks.

There's no way to know for sure, but I suspect that the country would be a lot smaller, and broken up into two or more separate union. (North, South, Western etc.) The south may have successfully left the union, but I don't think south could have conquered the north. They just didn't have the resources to pull it off. I doubt that there would still be slavery. Eventually there would either have been a slave revolt or some sort of general amnesty.

He's stuck doing bitch work for the rest of the day. By the way, do you just check your email continuously for updates, or do you have MSN Messenger, which tells you when you have a new email?

I just check it every once in awhile. Why?

It just seems that you're on the ball about replying really fast. So I figured either you check it every 3 seconds or you have Messenger.

What does knowing whats going on in the Spoonhouse have to do with Email? I leave this sight on. And for some reason it automaticly reloads every 10 seconds or something. (Which is really fucking annoying when you're trying to read a long article.)

Every time someone leaves a comment or posts a new topic, it sends an email out to everyone telling you that something has happened. It's especially useful if someone comments on an older post, because then you'll know they did it. I just check my email if someone does something on the blog.

The blog is set to refresh every 60 seconds (I sometimes leave it open in a tab during the day, and I got sick of hitting the refresh button, so I wrote some html code in the template).
Usually I can read any post (except for Cohort's rants) in under 60 seconds, so it really doesn't bother me. I can set it for more like 2 or 3 minutes if it bothers anybody.

And can somebody teach NDammitt how to do a hyperlink?!
